Described as “a pianist of awesome gifts” by the Birmingham Post, Chinese pianist Di Xiao has built a reputation as a musician and international ambassador for the piano. In a concert that celebrates the Confucius Institute’s 1st birthday, Di performs a programme that brings together both East and West, juxtaposing the music of European masters with works by their Chinese counterparts, all inspired by similar stimuli.
QMUL’s new Confucius Institute, a collaboration between QMUL and Shanghai University of Finance and Economics (SUFE), aims to strengthen educational, cultural, and business links between London and Shanghai, two leading nancial centres, by facilitating student and staff exchanges, academic collaboration and joint research; providing courses in Chinese Language and Culture; and promoting collaborations in the areas of nance and economics. The Institute was established in September 2015 with support from Hanban, the Chinese National Of ce for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language, which is responsible for promoting Chinese language and culture abroad.
