The QMUL Big Band rehearse and perform a range of music and styles from the early big band era through to contemporary popular songs. It welcomes wind & rhythm section instrumentalists and vocalists from both campuses, and aims to not just play arrangements but develop members' instrumental and improvising skills along the way.
It's directed by QM Jazz Music Leader Harry Evans, a professional Jazz and Big Band musician who has appeared with The National Youth Jazz Orchestra, The Alex Mendham Orchestra and recently performed in Sky Arts' "100 Years of Big Bands" programme with the Len Phillips Swing Orchestra.
The Band's main activities are centred around a weekly rehearsal (currently on Thursday evenings) at the People's Palace, although smaller student-led groups are also supported and encouraged.
